Overview: iInteract: i Feel, i Speak

The iInteract: i Feel, i Speak application for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad serves as a valuable tool for parents, therapists, and special education teachers, aimed at enhancing basic communication skills among children.

As a portable communication board, iInteract enables children to express their wants and needs in various environments. The app features visual images that are complemented by audio feedback, creating an interactive experience. Users can select a voice (male or female) that resonates with the child, assisting in building a connection with the auditory output.

This application offers seven distinct communication boards, allowing children, caregivers, or educators to identify various wants, needs, and emotions. Each board provides three to four picture options that expand when selected, accompanied by verbal output to articulate the child's request. This app emerges as a significant resource for those beginning their communication journey.

Background

The application is rooted in established practices that utilize communication boards to facilitate daily interactions for children. Developed in collaboration with my wife and her colleague—both seasoned professionals with over 20 years of experience supporting children with special needs—the goal is to empower these children with essential skills for independent living.

Our vision is to offer not only visual and audio feedback corresponding to the child's selections but also to enhance customization and navigation tailored for daily activities. This adaptability aims to ensure the app evolves alongside the child’s developmental needs.
